Waterloos Warriors take First Place in 2018 Thaalam Competition
The Waterloo Warriors, incepted in 2009, is a youth-led organization passionate in representing the South Asian community through the art of dance. The Waterloo Warriors have participated in numerous competitive and non-competitive events and achieved many accolades, including most recently winning 1st place in the Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance’s Thaalam competition in 2018.
The Waterloo Warriors serve as a platform for individuals of the South Asian community to embrace their talents and passions in dance, providing opportunities to grow their skills through workshops, skill sessions, showcase performances, and competitive stages. The team has grown from exclusively performing Gaana, a high-energy form of South Asian dance, to a variety of dance styles including classical, bollywood, bhangra, hip-hop, dancehall and many more. The Warriors continue to support community activities such as fundraisers and awareness initiatives, as well as providing corporate services for large scale events.
The Warriors are a team that carry decades of legacy and tradition: our dancers are keen to comment on the strong leadership, teamwork, and perseverance skills they acquire through our opportunities in addition to the one-of-a-kind family atmosphere built amongst our members. Although our team embraces members of all backgrounds and dance styles, our primary focus is to empower South Asian youth across the GTA and raise awareness about the rich arts culture being fostered in their communities.
We are not an associate of the University of Waterloo, and are solely a group that has come together in the Waterloo region to showcase our talents.
